That's true. You do need to push the rear out on a powerslide.
But a drift can't be done without throttle....otherwise it'd just be a powerslide.
I see a powerslide as the start of a drift.

aiteoband ur wrong. using throttle to push the back end out is called power over which is another technique for drifting and getting ur car side ways.

a powerslide is when someone is trying to grip, but loses it resulting in sliding rear tires, not exactly a drift, but the visual result is the same

You know what-forget it. I personally think that you do a powerslide when you push the gas pedal too much in a corner (you oversteer) and that drifting is doing these kind of things on purpose. But that doesn't matter, guys, unless it's written in a dictionary somewhere. Both things (if they're not the same) look awesome so there's no need to argue about what's drifting and what's powersliding. I just hate when somebody does donuts and then calls it drifting... That's all, thanks :)

zacjoe11 is right, it all started in dirt and snow. that was just the fastest way around a corner. it wasnt called drifting back then, the name picked up once it moved to all pavement events.

Well i hate to be a "knowitall" but this is NOT drifting, drifting contains of sliding trough multiple corners and even going sideways on straights, this is just powersliding.
Big difference !!!
Actually, drifting ... ( 1 day ago by zaku2288)
Actually, drifting was called powersliding until the 70s when Kunimitsu Takahashi did it on race tracks (and on corners only back then) because it was the best way to preserve speed through corners. Also, Keiichi Tsuchiya made it famous by practicing it in the mountain roads in Japan. So, zacjoe11 and fatstrathss are right and you just made an ass of yourself.
