Hey barbberg77, as it appears, there was such an incident though a lot of the details were blown way out of proportion on some email responses.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pissed off at animal cruelty too, being a pet lover for all these years. But I'm more pissed off on people who send info to you and I that has been padded a lot for the emotional effect.

When i got the email about it and saw the pictures, i started crying, it's just so insane that people think that to kill a dog is art?! ITS TOTALLY INSANE! Guillermo Vargas Habacuc is doing his "job". If he didnt let the dog live and die in the gallery, the dog would have died on the street and been ignored, and noone would have ever known it existed.
Its not just this dog that i will cry out for, but it is for all of the homeless dogs that starve to death on the streets. And for the four million dogs and cats that will be euthanized this year, because people dont take responsibility of thier animals.

He a she? i just saw this video today. O_o. I dont have to read an artist bio, to know what the "meaning" of her "art" is suppoed to be. This Work speaks for itself. When people say that it is not okay for the artist to do this means it s not okay for humans to treat animals this way. this dog is not the only one that will die because of human stupidity.

by the way it was all a hoax, the dog is perfectly fine. The piece of art in itself was that people need dramatic examples to wake them up and show them reality. Vargas never starved a dog.

While sitting in your American home it's easy to criticize. In reality this dog along with countless others are struggling in the streets of Costra Rica. I understand this could be seen as 'cruel'. I am a vegan biologist and I love animals.
The artist was trying to make a point. It got radically skewed. She was directing attention to issues of overpopulation of dogs. Thinking about it your worries should go past this dog to others that are starving there and maybe you would try to help them.
