...i was reading these comments and just had to write to "clear" things up. First; Nu-metal is a genre, that the media "invented". Its kinda everything mixed with everything. Nu=New Metal. When KoRn + other (numetal) bands appeared on around -94 there was mixing of Grunge, (Rap/hiphop), Alternative, Hardrock and Metal. These bands never really said they are numetal. KoRns first albums is definetly alternative / grunge / metal.

...limp bizkit did bring hiphop/rap to the nu-metal family and Deftones's White pony / Linkin park evolved it more like we know nu-metal today.
Have you noticed that Metalcore is more of nowadays numetal and Deathcore is how it evolved etc. etc.
...it all began in -94. The new wave of metalmusic.
ps. Oldschool KoRn, Coal chamber, Deftones etc. Rocks more than these bands nowadays. They play to fast, no sign of clean vocals / understanding of the lyrics etc.
I really miss "old-numetal".

lmao first time i've heard the term "nu-metal" was in 2000-ish... don't know where you've been... lol. i've always known korn as nu-metal, don't know where you gettin your info from. and no i'm not dissin ... and actually nu is slang for "new" kinda obvious there lmao "new metal"

I forgot all about payable on death... theres a numetal band also! :) Numetal was born in around -94 and the whole "birth-process" started even earlier. Theeee first band who started to mix rap?-kinda elements in metalmusic was Faith No More (1982-1998) and even Alice In Chains (1987-1996) had these "numetal" (as we prefer to call them) elements in their latest albums... so... it was not a "popup", numetal = nu=new (like i said already in my earlier post) evolved in many years!

When KoRn's first album came out in -94 (or also their Neidermeyer's Mind demo -93), the press (metalmagazines etc.) was impressed so much about their whole new sound and style to play metal (they just couldnt fit korn in any existing genre) so they invented the term "nu-metal". So numetal is really a term, not a genre... but... as we know, when it hit the daylight and other "numetal-ish" bands came around, it became a genre. More or less, the bands wanted, or didnt it to come as a genre.

He started a restaurant bisness... it really tells something about the nowadays-koRn. :S i think they really should have quit when they were on the "top"... after IsSuEs came out. :S korn hasnt been korn after that i think. But this is just only my opionion... and everyone has their own. :)

I think its amazing that they used insects in this video to show the intensity of their music- and it works brilliantly..
As for why they're called KoRn, Im not sure about the actual name but the spelling was decided when they were first discussing names, and JD wrote the name with a K and backwards R, like the way a kindergarten child would write it, sort of to do with lost innocence on their behalf
