the 80's was an era where talent, creativity, and diffrent and inspiring aethetics bloomed from many diffrent cultures. Basquait was one of many. he was gifted, talented, fun, loving and free. sadly held captive by racisism, even from within his own circle. sure vincent said that about Jean Michel. Basquait dated some of the most influential women of his and our time. white women, whom im sure vincent had a deep rooted hate for Basquait.

He was a friend, but I don't know if he was joking. I talked with gallo a few times about JMB and he was of the opinion that Basquiat was pretty bad painter, but a great poet. I think he liked this kind of writing work (which is what initially got everyone's attention in NYC) more than the paintings that came later.

Masterful piece on a master.
Some the art ignorant (some posting here) will never the mental capacity to digest the depth. As a form of artist myself it amazes me how layered in simplicity his work is & I'm child of the '80's who saw great work & bullshit.
I viewed the BKLYLN Museum exhibit 3 times after seeing photos of his work for years and was amazed. If you get a chance you MUST see his work in person to experience the full scope & impact. No joke.
