I posted this as a 'reply' to cosmicvagrant's comment. It would make more sense as such. How it was 'bumped out' on it's own is beyond me. Oh well. Read it as a reply to cosmicvagrant.

yeah, gd shame that there are not more fans of the thread. U2 is the quintessential band of my generation. And I use that word only for them. But for those who fear they don't get enough credit, as a follower from I am afraid to say 8th grade, 1986, on...now I can see as an adult how they will receive predominant historical perspective, perhaps even 100 yrs from being 2nd only to the Beatles. Believe me, who else would be included in that conversation but them?

well if we all liked the same things then life would be pretty dull my friend. you cant beat individuality, thats why i dont mind my kids dressing the way they do, it seperates them from the crowd.

Born in '72, its hard to argue U2 as the band of my generation, and although I struggle to pick their best album,....start to finish, artistically, politically and "enjoyably", Joshua stands out as the best album of the 80s and perhaps with HipHop taking over the charts...the best album since. Can respect Jz and the Co.,...but clearly there has yet to be a band, black or white, to transcend the human experience the way U2 did, has, and continues to do, since War.

This was always my favourite U2 song. It must be a 'mother' thing. I like that they keep the lyrics short and to the point, instead of pontificating too much and indulging their own egos. This is the most poignant U2 song by a mile, I love its intensity.
"The Lord" made ... ( 2 weeks ago by SeanyFuckingG)
"The Lord" made slavery and melestory possible, so he is responsible in the first place. He basicly gave a toddler a gun and said 'if you don't shoot yourself, you can have eternal happiness'.
