This is a demonstration of the BEGINNERS LESSON of Monday 19 March 2007. These JIVE NATION events are held most days of every week in Central London. For more details see website above. Teacher shown here is Simon Borland assisted by Karin.
The style of dance here is called MODERN JIVE which is very popular in the UK, Australia & New Zealand etc. The dance is a fusion of Jive, Swing and Latin styles of dancing. .... Ballroom, disco and Northern Soul influences too!
"Ceroc" is a patented, franchised tradename for this style of dance.
THE LESSON:(all the following instructions are for the lead, ...which here is Simon)
MANSPIN ( also called Man Breakthrough )
Start with left hand
Then signal with right hand out & bent, with your palm facing the floor. Pull lady across whilst you spin anticlockwise to the left of lady & into her arm . You MUST let go of the ladies hand. ( You change places as a result of this move )
Catch with right hand and return the lady anticlockwise.
ARM BAR ( your right elbow goes underneath ladies elbow at the start. Turn lady clockwise. Both of you turn back to back during this move ) You must be close to your lady to do this move successfully. CAUTION: you must have a very loose hand-hold with your lady at all times and ESPECIALLY during this move. The hands need to rotate inside each other
FALSE CLEAVER ( see last weeks beginners lesson, return lady anticlockwise, put your left arm on ladies left shoulder, stop your right hand infront of your face )
Then unwind lady clockwise.
FULL CLEAVER
Then return lady anticlockwise into a full cleaver. This move starts exactly like the previous move except that you move your right arm behind your neck, then with left hand on ladies left shoulder, pull lady across behind you,( from your left side to your right side ), pulling with your right arm.
HINTS: also use your left hand, still on ladies left shoulder to move her across behind you from your left to your right. You can also assist her by moving to your own left slightly.
Then return lady anticlockwise into a ...
RIGHT HAND COMB
right hand over your head, let go with right hand. Ladies hand slides behind your neck to your left shoulder, then down your left arm to catch with your left hand. ( This R.H.Comb will change hands for you )
REPEAT from the beginning.
( Simon misses out the comb on the first of the two walk-throughs.... See if you can spot him getting round this problem, as he is then holding the wrong hand. )

well..
to me it doesn't look like jive.
The dance seems to be reggaeton.
At least the step and the music would rather match..

Hi Thanks for your comment. The dance here is called Ceroc which was developed in London in the 1980's from French social jive dancing. It is called "Modern Jive" as an alternative name, because CEROC is a registered trade name and you have to pay for a franchise in order to use that name.

This dance is a hustle. It's more of a club dance. You can also do a synchopated hustle which means when you do the back rock it half a beat faster.
