You guys know Christian McBride is just not as good as Charlie Haden. He needs to go back to Jazz and study the Jazz language more. He should play with a touch more swing and soul as well as work on his average technique overall. I think in the heirarchy of good bass players Charlie is like 6 and Christian is like 24. I agree Charlie Haden would wipe the floor clean with Christian McBride when it comes to good Jazz bass Playing.

its a totally different style of playing, even thought they are both jazz its a different style. thats like comparing big band to bebop they are both good for different reasons. your probably a jazz snob anyways so there is no dealing with you. but hey milt hinton couple school charlie haden. but does that even matter. different people with different reason why they are both masters at bass

Sorry, but that's the most RIDICULOUS assessment of Christian's playing I've ever heard! If you'd said Ron Carter, Buster Williams or even Dave Holland, I might not be so harsh. But Charlie Haden????? You gotta be kidding me!! That man hasn't swung since he played with Ornette! Christian's a direct protege of the great Ray Brown. When Ray Brown wanted a second bass player, he called Christian, not Charlie Haden! When all the old bebop guys wanted a young guy who could swing, they call Christian.

Secondly, if you're talking about technique, if you know anything about playing the bass, any bass player - novice or expert - will tell you that Charlie has some of the most unusual (i.e. wrong) technique any bass player has ever used! He grips the neck as if he's choking a chicken!
