SelectPlusObama, McCain Lock Horns Over EconomyObama, McCain Lock Horns Over EconomyThe Associated PressWith the faltering U.S. economy now the most important issue to voters, Barack Obama began a two-week campaign tour, hoping to highlight the fiscal differences between himself and rival John McCain. (June 10)Hoping to seize on record gas prices and a recent spike in unemployment rates....Barack Obama strolled into North Carolina Monday --- kicking off a two week campaign tour that will focus largely around the ailing U.S. economy. And, from the outset, Obama made it clear how he was hoping to frame the debate...SOT: Obama --- When we are fighting two wars, paying $4 a gallon for gas, etc...he's willing to give Exxon Mobile a tax break. The economy is an issue the Illinois Senator is trying to make his own --- rather than national security --- where polls show his Republican rival John McCain has the edge.Obama dubs McCain's economic plan a --- quote -- "full-throated endorsement of President George W. Bush's
policies" --- something McCain has said is not true.SOT: McCain June 4th Fiscal Conf. --- "Whoever is elected president, there will be a new direction." But Obama isn't buying it....noting that McCain now wants to make permanent the Bush tax cuts he once called irresponsible.SOT: something has changed about john mccain because these same tax cuts are now his central economic policy.Blasting back, McCain says Obama's fiscal vision -- which calls for increased government spending -- would only further weaken the economy.SOT: McCain --- "One of the differences between Senator Obama and me is that he wants to continue this waste of your tax dollars on unnecessary pork-barrel projects."Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke tried to calm fears of a likely recession while speaking at a conference last night--- Saying the danger of the country falling into a "substantial downturn" appears to have faded. But exactly how it will rebound has not.Presumptive NomineeRaleighSOT: ObamaSOT: McCainRecent polls show the economy
is now the most important issue for voters --- surpassing even the Iraq war. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

(A little secret: It's because the US attacks, it doesn't defend. Or else it has so many economic interests worldwide, that if feels the need to control as much as it can militarily to advance those interests regardless of what anyone else thinks.)

Actually, the poverty problem will not be solved through more programs. First, it will never be fully solved. Second, we can only tackle it through generosity, which is tough because America is full of greedy people right now. greed = collapse

I'm not American, and I have no bias for either candidate since I know next to nothing about them. However, have you done your research on both candidates that ISN'T from sites that are obviously going to be baised? I find it hard to believe that it could be as one sided as "McCain has done so much that I could go on 4ever lol..go look it up. Obama done Zippo! Nada! for the American people."

The McCain-Palin administration will replace the outdated and ineffective patchwork quilt of regulatory oversight in Washington and bring transparency and accountability to Wall Street,

Where is Senator Obama? Not dealing with the crisis at hand. He is so unqualified to be President it's amazing how slow McCain has been at exposing that Obama is hiding from his responsibilities. He has done nothing his entire career but make friends with terrorists, criminals and anti-Americans. He doesn't even have an honorable friend. He is a foolish naive Chi-town thug. Look at what his wife and Pastor sayabout the US. Obama is panicked and doesn't know how to lead. McCain is in charge dummy

Obama needs a teleprompter to speak. He is an actor not a leader like McCain. Obama fails to see the magnitude of this crisis, he believes he is making political gains by exploiting the issue. It's not surprising Obama & the anti-American dems have sold out the US in their "lose at all cost in Iraq" campaign for power in '08. McCain is in charge and calling the shots. Obama is panicked and reactionary. Go form an alliance with Harry Reid and Barney Frank stupid. Frank is responsible for the mess

I live in NC and I'll tell you, Obama better explain his support for ACORN and the pressure the black caucus put on Fannie Mae to loan money to people who obviously couldn't afford homes and now we have to pay. These are issues that don,t reflect "change" we can believe in.

Both candidates have near identical foreign policies and voted for the bailout. Obama especially put pressure on the black caucus to push it through.

What bothers me is ... ( 1 month ago by UncleRico13)
What bothers me is that both sides engage in such picayune arguments over such petty issues. Negative politics take precedent over the most important issues in this race and that's wrong.
As I stand back and observe, I see democrats and republicans polarizing the nation.
I appreciate passionate politics. However this isn't passionate respectful politics.
This is hack politics bringing down a once great nation. When they're done arguing about flag pins and Muslim names, let me know.

While Obama & the Democrats were cashing their big paychecks from FannieMae & FreddieMac, McCain and 18 other REPUBLICAN Senators were loudly predicting this disaster and trying to STOP it.
Their letter, dated May 5, 2006:

Note that NOT ONE DEMOCRAT signed this letter.

I'm an african-american and i've always voted democrat, but I can't this time...there's something wrong this guy. In my opinion he's a borderline sociopath. He lies to get votes, and always has excuses for his questionable close relationships. He struts around like the anointed one, and talks of how he's the great change the country needs. He's too slick for my taste. I want change too, but change doesn't mean a new political party in power, or a candidate that looks different.

The scary thing is...obama may in fact win. But you know what, i guess he is much "cooler". Mainly because hes young, not white, and not the typical WASP presidential candidate. Hes also more charismatic, and an articulate person. I guess that really is more important and it makes a good president.
