on the software packed into it you can stop the recorded video and take a still picture on the computer, so technicly anything you record can become a still picture, but not instantly.

I have an hp m425 and its really quite decent with video, but with silent scenes it kind of makes buzzy noises on the video. what kind of camera would you recommend for family gatherings where my family plays music, etc? I like to record the songs my sister and brother make. My hp picks up pretty well, but still, i'd like to have better sound and maybe slightly better light pick up (though it's pretty decent on the HP)

I just ordered one. Its much cheaper than a camcorder and more practical to carry around, really small and compact. If your after DVD quality video then get a camcorder, this device is for web quality video's.
