Most symphonies in Mozart's period had four movements, the first written in "Sonata" form, which this one is written in. The second movement is a slow movement, and the third is a minuet movement and the finale is not always, but sometimes is a rondo, but it can be anything as a finale.
Either way, this is probably the reason why Mozart put them in this order.
1. Allegro
2. Minuetto and Trio
3. Romanze
4. Menuetto and Trio
5. Rondo
The first menuetto and trio has been lost. There is a recording of this work by the Salomon Quartet where they substitute a menuetto and trio written by Mozart and his pupil; Thomas Attwood, during Attwood's studies with Mozart in composition. It's quite interesting to hear.
Under CHRISTOPHER HOGWOOD'S legendary classical musical vision to restore this work's original proportions, this CD's EINE KLEINE NACHTMUSIK K.525 original first minuet (2nd movement Menutto I & Trio) that was torn from Mozart's autograph manuscript, is replaced here for the first time ever with a missing original surrogate minuet composed at the same time by Mozart and his English pupil, Thomas Attwood.
