Your list proves how jaded and how clueless you really are. Pioneering musicians? Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, John Lennon, . The fact you mention Herbie Hancock in the same breath as Dead Kennedy's is disgraceful. Keep acting like you know what you're talking about old man, enjoy your delusional state of mind. I'm not an Alicia keys fan but I don't like pretension between musicians. Also Alicia keys had the guts to say "Gangster Rap is a conspiracy to get black people to kill eachother." So She has some of my respect for that! :-)

I'm an absolute fan of David's but I think that Alicia does honour the song. She makes it sound as though David had composed it to fit into Young Americans and it feels just fine. It has an epic side to it which is much in accordance with the original version of 1974.
I sure disagree with the gospel like ending...but omg Alicia is american, has a beautiful voice and she had got to show off.
And David's voice is so much deteriorated. His merit is that he's still a great performer.I LOVE DAVID!

freakineye, haha yeah. There are certain songs that does not need to "renewed" to prove your vocal skills. I wasn't even born when he recorded "Changes" but on this one, I have to be an old fart and say this was an abomination compared to the original.
