He was placed in this postion by all of those people so he feels he owes it to those people to be this rock that htey have to lean on. He was forced to be the leader. I don't think being funny is always better.

Yeah. I heard once that the "5" on his shoulder is from Party of Five. I heard that all of the cast members of Party of Five have a "5" tattooed somewhere on their body. His just happens to be on his shoulder. That's just what I heard once. I have no idea if it's true.
