Was there ever a more beautiful tenor voice? And it's not just his voice. Such wonderful expression. Such musicality. What an artist the world lost when he died so young.

Magnificent style, but he's NOT a Lensky, not a repertoire for Wunderbar Wunderlich

gorgeous, as always with Wunderlich. The closest thing to perfection, yet it's kind of annoying how he translates every language to German. ugh.

he hardly translated it - it was just much more usual to sing in the "local" language than the original in those days (especially slavic pieces). Even up to twenty years ago the opera school in Vienna performed all their productions in German! Sounds weird, but that's how it was. Sure, it can be annoying but there is also alot of sense in it - it can be quite refreshing to be able to understand an opera without surtitles.

Maravilloso.

Not much of an actor was he? So what? Ah who cares if it's in German. I don't think I've heard this sung better. He just opens his mouth and lets the sound flow. No forcing, pushing, or anything. And what wonderful musicality. The sound floats...notice how no tenor of today has a sound that 'floats'. Because they all force and holler...good for them. Bravo Wunderlich.

I totally agree with your comment. This is the best version I've ever heard. Wunderlich barely moves, yet he is able to project such depth of emotion. He seems to act through his voice. I was totally absorbed watching.

Fritz Wunderlich could have sung in whatever language ... everything sounded just as it should, he transmitted all the emotions contained in the music. Bravo!!!
