Truly a fine performance. Those of you who missed seeing Stan live shouldn't lament too much. I missed most of those performances too! This was a good one, though!

Yes, the walls ... ( 11 months ago by CindySweetwater)
Yes, the walls shook. We got to see them twice. And I think I can say for all who were there - if music can change your life, (and we know it can) our lives were changed on those nights. The sheer power of the man - and the depth and breadth of those songs. There will never be another like him. Our job is to make sure that his music is still listened to, and passed on to new ears, so that it never dies. So, play the cds for your friends, and learn the songs and sing them yourself.

I first heard Stan singing on CBC Radio, and I was so enthralled by the quality of his voice and the power in the song that I fumbled around trying to find a pen so I could write down the name of the song/artist.

You're pretty close, "TheLocalLoser", but he died on June 2, 1983. Just 25 years ago (a few days past), and his music is still heard throughout the world.
A great Canadian who had an enormous impact on folf music in Canada and abroad!

i love this song but it sounds so empty in this version im so used to when theres like 8 voices of something all harmonizing with eachother...in this there only like 3 people it sounds different..both versions give a different impression of the meaning of the song...
Is there a full ... ( 5 months ago by knapperJay)
Is there a full version of the song sung by Stan Rogers on the net anywhere, instead of just the chorus? I've noticed that there are several renditions of the song online but nobody sings the last verse- wonder why? Great singer/songwriter and a terrible loss. I used to love singing Barretts Privateers and other such songs with friends at folk festivals while drinking unhealthy quantities of amber fluid- good times:) Jay (InOz).

Nathan, if Stan was your father, I just would like to say how sorry I am for your loss.
We all loved and love and cherish his music, and his legacy lives on. His songs have a hallowed place in my heart. God bless.

Stan Rogers is the real deal. This song should be the Canadian National Anthem. I'm usually a nasty bastard on You Tube. Bought I just bought this song on Amazon. You should too. A haunting anthem. And the rousing chorus -- macho in the best sense of the word. Forget about it.

Look at the passion in that 34 seconds. It's not just playing some music, those guys are they're music, you can't fake that.

I saw Garnet live lastnight @ the Savoy in Glace Bay. Truly a moving experience to hear him do some "Stan" tunes. Thanks to both of you for enduring the emotion to keep on performing those songs.
