Personally, I would use the word "random" instead of the word "accident" to explain things like where you're born, who you're born to, etc. Most of life is a result of random chance.

Just curious Stef, but if you lived in California would you vote against prop 8? I've seen your video about voting, but this is somewhat different than a general election I think.
Stefbot, I'd like ... ( 2 weeks ago by helloblueship)
Stefbot, I'd like to propose a thought experiment. Assume that homosexuality is a choice (I know, very controversial). Is it a valid choice? I answer in the affirmative. I think a strong argument for the validity of this (hypothetical) choice is another way to take apart these anti-gay arguments.
worryphree, WOW we ... ( 1 week ago by Wombat66614)
worryphree, WOW we are god huh?? That's amazing!! So tell me, how did "WE" Create the universe, or how did "WE" as god of course, create the human body? Give me a break! I'm sorry that you actually believe that you are a god. Please forgive me for "worshipping" the one TRUE God, who's birth we celebrate today!! We are created by God, it's OUR decision what we will do with God. Your eternity depends on it!!
Well, "god" is ... ( 1 week ago by worryphree)
Well, "god" is simply a mind-created concept. The conundrum of religion is that it states, "God is everywhere," but then tells you that you are separate from god. Therefore, the priests will now interpret the will of god for you, and you must do what they say, or face condemnation. So, if god is everywhere, how can I be separate from god? Man has created god in man's image. How can you put infinity in a neat little package and call it, "G-O-D?" What you call god can't be mind-conceived. It IS!
I don't know what ... ( 1 week ago by Wombat66614)
I don't know what religion you speak of, because I take direction from no one But my Savior, Jesus The Messiah! The laws that Jesus has given us, are for the betterment of our lives. Lastly, I won't argue with you wether there is a god or not, I know there is and you will unfortunately find out too late. I will pray for your eyes to be opened!! God Bless!!
Research the ... ( 1 week ago by worryphree)
Research the Council of Nicea, 325 a.d. Research the Essenes. There are many good videos on youtube about Essenes. I speak not of religion. Religion is the creation of man, not of god. Elites create religion to control the minds of men, by getting them to believe they are sinners. Christianity was created as a tool for political control, by the Roman Emperor Constantine. The real message of Yeshua(Jesus) is quite different from what you believe. Look at Essene.
Literally, yes, ... ( 1 week ago by Mattprole)
Literally, yes, everything is determined by circumstantial conditions. However, I think in this context he means something which is, for all intensive purposes, without direct correlation with a proposed stance, such that physical traits and place of birth are obviously not factors that condition, in a consistent or objective way, moral character.

3. Jesus said, "If your leaders say to you, 'Look, the (Father's) kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the (Father's) kingdom is within you and it is outside you.

When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are children of the living Father. But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty, and you are the poverty."
i feel proud about ... ( 1 week ago by sbichao)
i feel proud about most of the "accidents" in my life...with that approach, everything in our lives can be broken down to having happened accidentally. when it comes to achievements i think its extremely hard to define the line between chance or merit...luck or work....nature or nurture...there will always be a little of both...i think having advantage in whatever, is reason enough to be proud. PROUD not conceited or disrespectful towards others...
ok yeah, but you ... ( 5 days ago by Sean2046)
ok yeah, but you gotta admit that some things in your life are accomplishments right? like say, doing your homework and getting good grades through your own self-discipline. i see nothing wrong with being proud of that. but to take pride in your sexual orientation or where you were born is a totally different thing. to take pride in that is absolutely ridiculous, for sexual orientation and your birth place are for sure not choice, and therefore not an accomplishment of any kind.

say you were born ... ( 5 days ago by sbichao)
say you were born with an above average memory. that above average memory was the main factor of you being consecutively top of your class throughout your school career. without this memory you would have never been the best. imagine people would say "this guy remembers everything....its amazing"....would you not be proud of your memory skills even though you didnt get it by choice?
hmmmm interesting. ... ( 5 days ago by Sean2046)
hmmmm interesting. i don't see anything wrong with that i guess. but then again, there are people that can have naturally higher iq, memory, whatever and not put it to use. i guess it's kinda comparable but still... being proud of your good memory because it aids you in getting higher grades doesn't come off as being as laughably ridiculous as taking pride in you being straight. to me anyways.

but following this line of thought its as right to say: "it doesnt make sense for a homosexual to be proud" as it is to say: "it doesnt make any sense for an homosexual to be ashamed"....

so things we are born with can be divided into blessings(something you have that a lot of others dont, and is very valued) or curses(something you have that a lot of others dont, and it isnt valued)... and its understandable to be proud of the blessings as long as you put them to good use, and never understandable to be proud of curses....oh and just things that are too normal to be proud of. is that it?
I'll have to agree...

but following this line of thought its as right to say: "it doesnt make sense for a homosexual to be proud" as it is to say: "it doesnt make any sense for an homosexual to be ashamed"....
which is were the whole gay pride thing came from...a few years ago it was unquestionably a reason to be ashamed, but as it stopped being prejudice, they fetched the opposite of shame, turning shame into pride.
Array ( 4 days ago by sbichao)

conclusion: it would be more philosophically correct for someone gay to say "im not ashamed" than to say "im proud"

sbichao - you make very good points. Excellent! Bigots who get upset when Gays talk about being proud ignore the fact that straights are pushing their heterosexuality everywhere. Gays are not asking for equal time, they just don't want to be ignored or treated like they were invisible. Gays have the right to be proud - just surviving in this homophobic culture is a real achievement.
