Marriage was initially a legal binding which effectively gave the husband ownership of his wife, there was nothing romantic about it, it was like hiring a maid, permanently.
I don't think there's much romance in a modern marriage either, it's nothing more than a few legal papers and is actually quite symbolic of how materialistic people are. Should I tell you I love you, or would you prefer an expensive ring? That's all marriage is, an expensive ring and some paper.

The historical origins of Christianity/Judaism are shockingly funny. Yah'weh for instance, had a wife (Asherah) and took on the characteristics of the god 'El' who was worshipped in Judah. Only because preachers changed their message did people believe in just one god.

yeah, someone did invent marriage. God. we are a people of relationships. in the begining, God created man....and He saw that man was alone and it wasn't good. what wasn't good? that man was alone. therefore He created woman, who did He create the woman for? man. that is why a man leave his parents and marry a woman. and they become one that is what the word marriage means. now God intended for this to be a lasting relationship, until death do them part. but sin entered the world, repent.
