FNC's Bill O'Reilly returned to the Late Show Friday night for round two with David Letterman over Iraq. In the show taped on Monday but not aired until Friday, Letterman expressed disgust with the war: "So we've made a mistake in war, so we stay there and kill as many Americans as we possibly can? That's the way you get out of a mistake?" At another point, Letterman fretted: "It's all about oil. That's why we're there. Big deal." When O'Reilly asserted that "it isn't 'We're a bad country, Bush is an evil liar.' That's not true," Letterman retorted that "I didn't say we were a bad country. I didn't say he was an evil liar" and charged: "You're putting words in my mouth just the way you put artificial facts in your head."

But if you recall, that's not what we exactly went in there for. That was a backup excuse. Saying 'yes' is the thoughtless way out. It doesn't mean much. Of course, if we start something, we want to win it. It's really a stupid question. We did win, we thought he had WMD's and he didn't. WE WIN!
Patriotism is a weird thing. I'll be honest, the reason I am an American is because I was born here. Every country has a motto. Not one of them says, "We're number two!"

Saddam didn't have WMD's? Tell that to hundreds of thousands of his own people he gased. He DID have WMD's. But as usual Bill Clinton AND George Bush folded to the world opinion and allowed the UN to issue 16 resolutions over 8 years. In this time, Saddam had time to relocate these weapons. We waited too long to go in like we did. A few air strikes without ground troops did not do the job. He had WMD's, but we waited on the most worthless organization in the world (the UN) too long.

I love when O'Reilly says "I'm not being condescending..." --that's all he ever does. He's eloquent and hard to argue with, but he's still just a mouthpiece for the religious right-wing assholes that WERE running your country.

World War II cost my country many more lives than this war. We didn't start this war, just like we didn't start WWII. And we have won both, and we are still the greatest country on the planet. By the way, maybe we did lose an ally or two. Losing an ally doesn't mean we gained an enemy. And to answer your question, we did gain an ally, Iraq. By the way, the thousands of good men and women that laid down there lives and are still there, the majority of them agreed with the cause.

#1 - I have yet to see a firm definition of WMD. But whatever it is, inspectors never found anything. And if you watch the clip above, O'Reily is even saying there weren't any.
#2 - I believe independent countries are just that. If the US has WMD's, who are we to stop someone else?
#3 - If one has to lie to do something, they should look at what they're doing. They were wrong on so many levels. Even leading most Americans this would be an in and out job. Didn't Cheney say, "Six months?"

Inspectors didn't find anything- The Iraqi army (ordered by Saddam) denied inspectors access for how long??? Saddam was just buying his time to relocate the weapons (WMD'S or not) he used on his own people. Bill was right there were no weapons (once we finally went in thank you United Nations.)And yes, Cheney was wrong about the 6 months. But now that we are there, we would be foolish to cut and run. As far as the US having WMD's, yes we do, but we don't use weapons on our own people.

Good debate because Letterman "points" out belief many have on oil, but O'Reilly made an important point both before & after "the point" which is we went there to change world.
You see 3,300 people died on 9/11 & nothing can be accomplished in Afganistan relative to making a point to the Arab world, which without Iraq would be no point at all to the Arabs once a new president from 2001 showed up.
I'll have you note no one says anything about Saudia Arabia & that is the real issue.
