Eres lo que lees
Uploaded by: Reexio
Video Description:
In 2007, an artist by the name of Guillermo Vargas Habacuc took a stray dog from the streets, tied him to a wall with a rope and left him to starve to death, and presented it as "art". He called his 'masterpiece' "Eres lo que lees" which means, what you see is what you eat.
He has been invited back to do the same thing in 2008! Sign a petition to protest against this at: http://www.petitiononline.com/ea6gk/petition.html
The artist's defence follows::
"My name is Guillermo Habacuc Vargas. I am 50 years old and an artist. Recently, I have been critisized for my work titled "Eres lo que lees", which features a dog named Nativity. The purpose of the work was not to cause any type of infliction on the poor, innocent creature, but rather to illustrate a point. In my home city of San Jose, Costa Rica, tens of thousands of stray dogs starve and die of illness each year in the streets and no one pays them a second thought. Now, if you publicly display one of these starving creatures, such as the case with Nativity, it creates a backlash that brings out a big of hypocrisy in all of us. Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway."

"Webisode: Dog Starved To Death For 'Art'"
this nbc affiliate has done a story regarding this dog that was 'allegedly' starved to death
another thing to note, Habacuc is an illusive prophet who is only known by a book he wrote, I think there is a LOT more to this story than what is currently being told
it's quite remarkable that the only things about this story that people know, isn't what they have witnessed, but what they have read
"Eres lo que lees"
I have been on the internet for roughly 17 years, I've seen so many things that make me scratch my head it's led me to become a rather skeptical person when it comes to information I find on the 'web', I check and re-check any information I find to be suspicious and this 'story' is riddled with misinformation. A prime example would be in your description you have the title of the artwork as "what you see is what you EAT"
I actually volunteer at several places and i do rescues, so i feel i am fairly justitfied to make a video such as this.
