MacAlly Cheap IceCam 2 : Mac Compatible Webcams

Disappointing MacAlly cheap next generation OS X compatible UVC Ice Cam2. Poor color-balance & awful low-light sensitivity. Harsh microphone. I only got satisfactory results using programs that gave me extensive control over color, saturation, brightness etc (like iGlasses or iUSBcam software from eCamm - or in some QuickTime capture apps which give you access to Quick Times 'Adjustments' panel like ISPQ). While the icecam2 has some nice design features and well-written manual, it proved to be Yet-Another import webcam that proves why it's worth spending more than $25. When you buy up around the $75 range you can get SPECTACULAR webcams that are fully Mac compatible, have razor sharp image quality and light sensitivity that's worth paying for. Unfortunately, this rebranded cheapo import cam ain't one of them. Sorry MacAlly - I ain't your Macintosh Ally on this one.

Oh man, the microphone on the IceCam2 just SSSSSSucks! Listening to the first section - the 'Sss's' are just enuff to rip your eardrums. That combined with other equally awful image issues, make this a cam I can NOT recommend to anyone in good conscience.

The sound didn't quite match the picuture. The picture is good, good frame rate. It looks like iSight provides a better picture, but the picture skews reddish-brown. Good job!

I just checked out your Web page. It answered my questions! I'm trying to get an original Icecam to work with Skype on a USB 1 800 Mhz eMac. I'll save my money for something better. Thanks!

Most UVC webcams can't throttle back down to USB 1.1 speeds. You have a real challenge. Creative Labs webcams might - possibly the *absolutely current*, latest UVC version of the Video IM Pro. (about $40, follow the link from my site.) And verify USB speed abilities at Creative's site.. Sadly, the original low quality IceCam is the only readily available option for old Macs on old versions of OSX - Macs without USB 2.0 ports are just becoming totally unsuitable for video chat use..
