Systemic lupus erythematosus (S.L.E.), commonly called lupus, is a chronic autoimmune disorder that can affect virtually any organ of the body. In lupus, the body's immune system, which normally functions to protect against foreign invaders, becomes hyperactive, forming antibodies that attack normal tissues and organs, including the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, and blood. Lupus is characterized by periods of illness, called flares, and periods of wellness, or remission.

I would get much more out of your videos if they were captioned or had text options, and I would like to put in a word for other deaf lupus sufferers like myself who would like to be included in the lupus community. I hope the future will bring sign language interpreters and captioned videos and videos with text options at the very least. Keep up the good work!

That was amazing it made you feel the vibe and everyone kno's there about lupus. Ireland need more help. I have it and i kno three other suffers.But the thing is there is only one doctor in the hold of ireland that can deal and help us! and we all have to drive hours to see this one person. it really need helping around the world everyone raise for cancer and i am not sayin that isnt a very good cause. but i think more should be done for lupus.

Its really amazing how much awareness there is in the US. Here in the Netherlands its it same as it seems everywhere outside the US. Lupus? What's lupus? People don't even want to hear about it! You don't look sick, why do you cancel appointments, you're so unpredictable blablabla, noooo, I've lupus!

Thank you. There is a long way to go. Though 1.5 million Americans have Lupus, it is one of the least recognized major diseases in the US. I create my videos to raise Lupus Awareness for Medical Research and Patient Outreach Services. ~ Be Well.

ZD: I understand where you are coming from pal. I'm legally blind w/ only slight residual vision remaining. I'm often thankful its my vision going vs my hearing hwr, I have early signs of tinnitus w/SLE, Sjogren's, RP, and problems w/my optic nerves as well as the progression of the diseases independently. I can't drive or obtain transportation so my primary contact w/understanding people is online. My DH is not at all understanding; it's quite the opposite. I wonder if we will last esp lately.

Yes its true, Lupus awareness is growing recently, but even in the US, most people have no idea, even in the medical profession, what Lupus is. In the US, I had symptoms for 33 years before it got diagnosed. I almost died 5 years ago from it. Now I have it under control, but not much of a remission. If I didn't go on the internet and find out what tests to ask for, it never would have been diagnosed. The symptoms mimic so many other things, very hard to diagnose.

I try to get patients in the loop, Lupus Outreach is vital to finding a cure, medical research and patient support are needed now, i am doing what i can to spread the word and widen the "Loop for Lupus"
