Fair point, but in a way I think the studio work is deliberate to the point of self-consciousness. The production sounds a hell of a lot like the production on the much reviled Roger Waters album, Radio K.A.O.S.

Gimme a break. We have all grown to rely on technology. The man was ahead of his time. Think of Pete Townshend. Before 'Baba O'Reilly' the synthesizer was just a trick box. He turned it into a legitimate musical instrument.
I'm a huge Frank Zappa fan. And he hated electronic 'canned music'. But I think he would have approved of this.

Go get off your crack and getta life. for a start, fly to England and see Cohen at the big chill on 3rd august. day ticks are available. then go buy all his albums, starting with the vinyl versions. then and/or watch the Cohen glastonbury festival and amsterdam etc clips on youtube.
