In Jamaica in 1770 there were 100 African people called MacDonald, and a quarter of the island's people were Scottish. There was a network of Argyll Campbells at least 100 strong in Jamaica too, concentrated on the west of the island. Lets thanks Scotlands role in the salve trade for that. Would we welcome our distant cousins back with open arms too? What about the English while we're at it. lol.

Edinburgh is good to visit but bad to live in (especially if you don't like staying indoors all the time). It is very quite, cold and windy. Most Scots are cool but they've got more junkies than you can imagine. Some go to the pub at 7am! And yea I am Greek i.e. Έλληνας

i've been in edinburgh and i gotta say that it was an awesome trip.. we've stayed at the budget backpackers (yaya, u may laugh now :D:D)... and the people and going to clubs was actually much better than in germany, because here u gotta pay a lot to get into clubs and some bars, an that sux.. and in EdBu-Oldtown u got every 100m another club/bar, so that u can trip round tha whole city in the night from club to club.. thats great^^

old town certainly does, especially in winter when the air is crisp and the buildings are all lit up :D theres a beautiful view over the whole city from calton grave yard if you climb up onto the back wall, iv lived in edinburgh my whole life and thats my favorite place in the entire city :D

If any of you can tell me ... does Edinburgh consist entirely of scottish accents or do you get a lot of english-sounding accents as well? I'm just curious, because i've heard you do get a lot of tourists in Edinburgh and i wondered whether parts of the city have been anglicized.

Sorry, i've used the wrong kind of word. Just ignore that bit ... what i mean is basically, are there some people who live there who don't speak in the scottish accent? I'm trying to come up with characters for a story and i'm just wondering whether they all necessarily have to have the accent just because it's set in Edinburgh?

Just like any European capital you'll find a whole manner of accents. Scots, English, Irish, Australian etc etc. For your story it depends on what part of the city you're basing it.
