he can buy buckles separately. why buy a whole cheap bag you won't use just to salvage the buckles? it just adds to waste, but aside that, way cool project!

Is it just me or does buying that backpack from the thrift store and cutting it up defeat the purpose of the whole thing? What r u going to do with the cut up backpack now? Throw it away? I do love the idea of Fused Plastic so much that I'm going to make bags to use for shopping.

plastic is not plastic. you should not use PVC for that bechause that would definitely release toxic gases containing chloride compounds. however plastic bags and trash bags are always made of PE (polyethylene) which, even if you burn it only cracks into water and carbodioxide, which is nothing more than what everyone of us produces every day :D
