The Quran is:

NO BOOK HAS EVER BEEN ARRANGED SO FOOLISHLY!
Conclusively, the Quran was written by ONLY uneducated followers of Mohammed who died in 632AD. Arabic language was established in 876AD.

Most Muslims can't read Arabic.
Even 20%+ of Arab Muslims can't read Arabic.
This argument that "If u can't read Arabic.." is nonsense. The translators can!

So what!? The guys in Al-Azhar still have trouble working out what it means! (And they CAN read Arabic.
A correct translation can be made only in Arabic that doesn't mean that all the people who know arabic have correct interpretation. And for your second point: I feel translation of Quran is your view towards it, so if you rely on traslations by a third person you loose your heart for it, something like I feel Quran is a kind of mirror which shows your current status(you views and all) and also truth and you have to use that to make yourself good.
However, this kind of exclusiveness makes it easy for a few to interpret for the many. How many Pakistanis are literate in Arabic? There are madrassas full of nodding kids who will kill themselves and anyone for the jihad, though they haven't got a clue what it's about. Better to read in Urdu (if they can; same script) and try to understand.
Re. Islam: Arabs tend to dive into a linguistic determinism wherein the terms are deemed acceptable. When translated, they aren't. Hence the need to obfuscate. I really think it's as simple as that.

Islam is rooted in Arabic, which has given the Arabs control over doctrinal interpretation. This has been compounded by economic wealth in the last fifty years. If a non-Arab learns Arabic, no problem! Except I think the culturally specific aspects will b alien and viewed as allegorical (good!).
The info supplied by the uploader, lookhearsee, states, "Saudi women, oppressed by their husbands..." and really the video does not have this as a main point. Mostly, the video talks of young girls, not married women. One woman, who is commenting after the video, states that some married women do this as well, after their husbands have gone out with friends. However, no where does anyone state anything about husbands oppressing wives. That is lookhearsee's own slant.
