Slavic seems to be used more often these days. Slavonic once were the adjective describing activities by people belonging to a big branch of the vast indoeuropean languages family tree.

No slavonic describes are an older or more british word for your ameriacan slavic.
But you are wrong also in the followings. Slavonia is not a Czech region. It's an eastern croatian region but I suspect you mean somthing else. Namely Slovakia. But they are not a region of the Czech republic. They are a separate nation. There are also Slovenia wich was the first region to claim independency from former Yugoslavia and formed a nation just like Slovakia later on.

Slovakia did not brake loose from former Yugoslavia but from former Czechoslovakia.
One can almost spot the name Slovakia in the name of the now extict nation Czechoslovakia.
