It's like a college course. You know English 101, English 102. I don't know if they still doing that, the way they describing college course.
The way I describe guitar players is like college course if you want to learn how to play guitar. Everyone says to take the first step to learn how to play the guitar is Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley(R.I.P.). So I called that Berry & Diddley 101.
Then there's Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Garcia, Jimmy Page, Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, B.B. King & Hendrix.

Personally in my opinion, i think that both Hendrix and Clapton are excellent guitarists, both play great, compose great songs, both very talented, the only diffrence is that unfortunately Hendrix isn't here these days(Rest In Peace), but they are pretty much equal, of course Hendrix had some crazy riffs, but that doesn't mean he's superior, i see them both as very talented, excellent guitarists that have spent their lives doing what they enjoy, making music.

No guitarist is better than the other. Eric Clapton is a very rhythmic musician and so was Jimi Hendrix but they both played a lot like each other back in late 60's and early 70's. Just because someone isn't that flashy of a guitarist or is doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad guitarist, people need to learn that. That song was beautiful and so is "Castles Made of Sand" Playing crazy stuff is cool, people just need to learn to appreciate beautiful, simple, rhythmic and melodic music as well.

totally agree.a simple, heartfelt song has just as much value than a complex one, if both have soul behind it.some people fail to realize that virtuousity is not an end in itself, but just another way to reach the core of music, which is quite simply the feeling and the power that it is able to express. jimi´s songwriting and the emotive properties of his music are often overlooked, which is what made him great, JUST like clapton. because they both understood that it was all about the feeling.
