I'm spoiled for all foreseeable future metal. I've listened to Obscura (the album) roughly 40 times in the last week. It's only in the last day that I've listened to anything else, and I'm sorely disappointed with even my previous favourites Akercocke. Gorguts surpasses everything else I have ever heard in metal. Worse yet, as far as I can tell, there is nothing else quite like this. My friends, I am fucked.

I wish I could find this album somewhere. The "learning curve" on liking this song is like trying to jump over Mt. Everest, but once you adjust, it's fucking amazing.

You know, when I first heard Obscura I didn't get it. It was weird, random, and unlike anything i'd ever heard. It was annoying also so I just stopped listening to it about halfway through.
And then, upon the second listen..I just can't exlpain it. Something in my brain just clicked and I got the sensation that I was listening to one of the greatest peices of music ever recorded.
Obscura is hands down, one of the greatest muscial achievements ever recorded. Gorguts are gods of all in metal

Some reviewer on Metal Archives (correctly) described Demilich's Nespithe as the sound of the slow descent into hell, and Crimson Massacre's The Luster of Pandemonium into the whirling, chaotic ascent from hell onto Earth. So is Obscura just the lake of fire itself?
