Inspired by Sick Puppies "All the Same" video featuring Juan Mann, people here in Japan have started the Free Hugs Campaign.
Some says it won't happen in Japan. But it did!
This is a true documentary video of Free Hugs at Shibuya, Tokyo.

For those who care about why FREE HUGS on the sign board is written in English, not Japanese, we wanted to communicate with the original English-language words, and they ARE the message. Plus, Free Hugs in Japanese is actually written on the other side of the board.

How can Japanese hug foreigners if they are extremly racist to foreigners?

Only if you have unprotected sex with someone who has an STD.Or like if someone has AIDS and their blood gets on a cut you have on your arm.Hugging someone with the flu,however,may cause you get get the flu because it's airborne.

I've been living in Japan for more than 16 years and I've never seen them before.
I watched the video you mentioned and I found it really odd.
Maybe it's true that there are some pub owners who do not want foreigners coming into their pubs but I think it is largely because of language problem. I think they just don't want any troubles with people who cannnot speak Japanese. They didn't mean to be racist I guess.
Moreover, they DISTORT the history textbooks so that the younger generation have no idea about their dirty past..
They constantly bring up territorial disputes against ALL THE NEIGHBORING NATIONS, and secretly lobby organizations and publishers of the world to change the world map.

if u choose to stay. do not complain or cry about your racial experiences u had in japan.
u'll be less hurt if u go there with that mindset than ignorantly going there thinking japanese are not racist.
