I really think it's all about the roles.
John Cleese has brilliant roles most regularly.
Graham Chapman much less regularly, but when he gets the right part he is absolutely the best.
Eric Idle has some awesome roles, especially in the Marriage sketch and the Storytime sketch, but I've got his lines from the Meat Sketch ready to insult anyone at any time as well.
Michael Palin... Well, I just don't see him out there enough, but he did really well as the Barber/Lumberjack.
