That second hidden skin is pretty cool. I've enabled it myself on my Z-5500s before. There's a major downside to it, though. The volume control is less precise. Max volume on the second skin is only half of its normal potential volume with the normal skin since it increments in full bars instead of half bars.

I have compared these speakers to a $3,000 Bose home theater system, and they have very similar sound quality. The z5500's bass is better and does not distort at high volumes, so if you want to get Bose quality at a low price, get 2 z5500" and laugh at your dumb friend who will forever envy your awesome system :D

not just bass, but all around sound quality. lows, mids, highs. a sound card vastly improves sound quality, especially for 5.1 audio. o, and just a tip, use aud-x for 5.1 decoding of mp3s rather than matrix mode (if u dont already)
