oh I love John Roberts...aside from the hair, he looks the same today as he did back then...well, even better!

Yeah, this exactly how Cronkite spent the early part of his career.

He couldn't have. Cronkite didn't have as good hair at that age.
And Cronkite - like many front line broadcasters in the early days of television - hosted entertainment-oriented as well as news formats, including a quiz show and a morning entertainment show. Doug Edwards and Bob Trout did the same.
Nothing wrong with either as long as when someone wears their news hat, they handle the format with dignity. Hugh Downs was also adept at doing both.

Oh boy! This is vintage! I live in the US now, and I tell people that I remember CNN's John Roberts "back when" he was doing this stuff in Toronto. And interviewing the Spoons! What memories! Can it really be that long ago?
