how did these guys get this os onto this phone? this isn't the white developer's phone we've seen. Seems like this os is ready to go.
If they want to make a big splash, let us void our warantees and blast windows mobile off of our handsets.

I'm getting fed up with people criticizing the hardware that Android runs on. Even people who criticize the current look and feel of the interface are missing the point. Android is a software platform that distinguishes itself by being open and extensible. It isn't tied to any single piece of hardware or any single set of applications and any decent programmer will be able and allowed to add to its functionality or change its looks.
Good to know that it will run even on such old hardware.

I own a kaiser which is twice as expensive as an iphone. I got GPS and real internet access while you got a 10$ nokia functionality. So I earn twice as much as you and I am twice as smart, following your logic :lol:
PS iphone is by no means bad, it's just overpriced because of stupid fanboys.

I'm quite dissappointed in this demo
Apps seemed very slow on the demo, but could be due to the amount of memory available on that phone. It's nothing special, and provides nothing more exciting than symbian of the iPhone OS.
At least iPhone already has Google Maps and Services. Apple have integrated these services much better.
I believe Android will make no bigger impact than Windows Mobile. And that is only a single drop in the ocean.
Go the iPhone.

the build quality dude. The screen cannot scratch, it's toughened glass! you can drop it from 10 feet onto concrete and it will just bounce, and do it again... bounce and again... bounce...
actually the iphone is not cheap. and when apple sold their first production run... they gave the first customers a $100 rebate.
Seriously, apple aren't greedy! They just make good stuff without cutting corners. It's not cheap.

Linux is good, but it looks like the interface sucks. Windows Mobile is horrible with stupid little menus for everything, and Android uses the same thing? I hope the real platform is better. Of course since it's Linux we can make it better ourselves, right?

Agreed. I'm still excited that there are several open source platforms coming out, though. Hopefully they will be modded to outperform the iPhone quickly enough.

It doesn't matter how well it runs if the interface is just a rip off of Windows Mobile. I would think the Google guys would be more creative than this. DESIGN FOR FINGERS, NOT MICE, GUYS.

If they want people to adopt it they will need a better default interface, though. The current one looks like Windows Mobile with a Google theme. I've been using Windows Mobile for several months now and it makes me want to commit seppuku.

Android is very promising. It's only the beginning and it will become better like in any Linux distro. It's funny that we now have AGAIN 3 platforms but in phones. Apple, M$ and Linux. But unlike M$ that has some standards and Apple that has only one piece of hardware to worry about, android is a more difficult project to deal with, since it is geared to run in as many hardware variations as possible. So we have to give the android team and Google some credit for a great engineering effort.
