This is an awesome concept and design. I'd love to see the final combined with lighting to add another dimension to it.
The collapsing idea is cool as well...as long as it doesn't mess up ;)

it is another company who invented a similar technology, even before jeep's shows. Besides, that technology it is not interactive and it is meant to work indoor.

As several have pointed out, this technology has been around for some time -- Professor Steven Pevnick invented and patented the original system in 1979. His company now creates these displays worldwide, including the '94 Atlanta Olympics system and many shows for Daimler/Jeep.

OK, typo -- yes, the Atlanta Olympics was in '96. And yes, Steve's company (Pevnick Design, in Milwaukee WI) has done several interactive systems -- including a hollow-square version for Siemens in the 2005 Machining Show in Hannover, Germany where two stage magicians coreographed their act (and music) with the waterfall images and, for the grand finale', made an assistant "appear" in the middle and walk out thru a hole in the image. It was really neat.

Yes, several people have worked on controllable screens made of water (including Pevnick, Julius Popp, etc.). The main difference here seems to be the interactive use of the technology, together with its more architectural applications (a building that can expand or shrink based on necessity and use).

Wow, I'm really looking forward to seeing this in its true form. I want to be an architect when I grow up and seeing modern creations by man like the water pavillion really inspires me to think of designs that are outside the box and really innnovative. I hope this will be a very successful and popular building. It's so interesting.

How do they know when to open up the wall when people want to come inside? Is there a specific spot where people must enter, or can it be from all sides of the building? Sorry for my asking you if you don't know the answer, I just saw your comment and it looks as if you know a bit about this building

That was for Siemens and it was done by Pevnick Design. It was the cool 3d 4sided version.

This is not completely true, the technology was developped by the company LUMIARTECNIA, I know this because I have been working on the site. MIT takes all the credit but the dirty job, including fountain material and sofware is made by Lumiartecnia.
