Keith Olbermann offers a special comment on Countdown. Keith criticizes Barack Obama for supporting the FISA bill regardless of the telecom immunity provision. Olbermann also explains how Obama can redeem himself by leaving the door open for criminal prosecutions. The immunity only covers civil cases, but provides no protection for criminal cases. When Barack Obama is president he can have his Attorney General the crimes committed by George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzales, etc.

So you'd still vote for someone who compromises his principles for votes. Just remember, you get what you vote for. Unfortunately for me (Ron Paul supporter) I get what you vote for too. This legislation is just another small erosion of our civil liberties. But hey, we'll see how much he changes for "we the people" when he's elected president.

I don't agree with your premise. The bill is about how to PROSECUTE illegal wiretapping, NOT to permit it. The final bill provides ways to go after the guilty without ruining the whole telecommunications system with "friendly fire". Once again, Obama finds a way to obtain an important objective without ignoring the problem. Fighting the wrong people does not make a winning strategy.

Obama, originally against the bill, then switched after hefty campaign contributions from the telecoms who desperately needed the immunity. This too, is an unfortunate fact. Research!!!

I do admit I didn't read the whole FISA bill, so I'm not a reliable authority, for sure! If the telecommunications systems are only the hardware providers who's systems are being misused by corrupt investigators, I am for going after the dirty spies, not the phone companies. I need the phone companies working just like you do.I only skimmed the surface of this so far though.
