Where is originality in contemporary film? Take a look at Sunshine, it just quotes 2001, Alien, even Event Horizon. But I'm desperate to see something I've never seen before, just as the audience did in 1969 watching 2001.

Please excuse my idiocy, but when they show glimpses of Dave looking uncomfortable, what is it trying to portray? Is it him simply being uncomfortable from the journey, or something more?

I thought this part always meant that he died and became an omniscient being. Around 3:30 it seems like it's showing him the formation of the universe.

David Bowman is ... ( 2 weeks ago by snugglenuts)
David Bowman is traveling "at least 10% the speed of light" when the monolith captures him and sends him away to another part of the galaxy, according to 2010: Odyssey 2. During this sequence, I think he is having his mind blown away since he is traveling so fast through hyperspace. He does not die (in the traditional sense) at the end of the movie; He is ascended to a higher state of consciousness and is sent back to Jupiter to watch over a new ecosystem.
There ya go!

"They are the areas ... ( 1 week ago by fgjk234)
"They are the areas I prefer not to discuss, because they are highly subjective and will differ from viewer to viewer. In this sense, the film becomes anything the viewer sees in it. If the film stirs the emotions and penetrates the subconscious of the viewer, if it stimulates, however inchoately, his mythological and religious yearnings and impulses, then it has succeeded." ~ Kubrick
