Just in Today 9/25 ... ( 2 weeks ago by emforty2)
Just in Today 9/25 Rob Peterson of GM said the Volts 1.4 Liter engine will power the Volt not just charge the batteries. check msnbc report
they keep saying engine generator and volt is a purely electric car please listen to utube other videos including this on what they are saying this is NOT an ELECTRIC CAR
I agree, why do ... ( 2 weeks ago by Weequay2)
I agree, why do companies take concept cars and turn them into the same generic crap?
This is how I ... ( 2 weeks ago by jjs4you2)
This is how I figure it works....I'm to lazy to look it up ;-)
The Electric motor takes you the first forty miles after a full charge, then the 1.4l engine takes over for about another 300 plus miles on the volts full fuel tank of gas, E85or other fuels. The engine recharges the batteries, but to what extent over the 300 miles on the gas engine I have no idea. anyone?
so basically its ... ( 2 weeks ago by emforty2)
so basically its NOT an electric car its another HYBRID with a different system than existing ones on the road.
Its 1.4 Liter Engine as big as the Chevy Aveo compact car still needs spark plugs, coolant, oil, oil filter, a tune-up and an oil change so WHATS NEW! this is what were trying to get away with !!
its basically an overpriced HYBRID ! and they presented it as a NEW electric car ! this is deception !
I'm so fustrated ... ( 1 week ago by mcahenn)
I'm so fustrated with car companies like GM because they act like it's 'so difficult' to build a fully electric car. They ignore the small businesses like Phoenix Motorcars who are already producing them. And why did they repossess and crush all of their EV1s? I do not trust these big auto companies, but at least the Volt is a move in the right direction.
Dabombclay, EVs are ... ( 1 week ago by mcahenn)
Dabombclay, EVs are great for CO2 emissions. Where do you get your info? And that's not why the EV-1s were shredded. The leasers offered GM millions to buy them because they loved the cars. You also forget about solar panels. Some EV1 owners claimed they made enough power from their solar panels to fully charge their cars and even get them credits on their energy bill. Also, don't forget about people who get their electricity from nuclear, hydro, wind, or geothermal power.
They just had to ... ( 1 week ago by jvmalum)
They just had to concoct a reason to install that damn combustion engine. very, very complex piece of ^$E4, that only they will be able to fix, and as with all big industry, we know, it is by design going to need fixing. Without that heavy addition, could of designed a little smaller and still had room for more batteries and vastly improved the miles per charge. What a bunch of users and, as is now clear, losers. Done in by their own greedy self serving policies.
1) The amount of ... ( 1 week ago by Zephippz)
1) The amount of extra miles without the batteries are an estimated MAXIMUM 10 miles.
2) What if you need energy now ie. a road trip. You are going to drive 40 miles and charge for six hrs each time? Come on. It is more economical with the engine.
And that is the tip of the iceberg. We are not ready for full electric yet.
As much as we want to ditch gasoline bad, don't let it cloud your vision and logic. We ARE ready for a car like the volt. We ARE NOT ready for a full EV.
Kind of hard to say ... ( 1 week ago by jvmalum)
Kind of hard to say it all in 500 character count but, yes we aren't ready to completely ditch the gas cars. but come on we should all be driving electric to work and back. that has long been a reality with the EV !. We will all still have 2 or 3 gas jobs to take our long trips in. and with the new found lack of need for foreign oil, gas will be cheaper, just have to expand your thinking beyond the nightly news, and the GM paid for media. The old EV did better than this hog.

America is a unique ... ( 1 week ago by maxeemcom)
America is a unique case - really absurd distances between things, even within a single city. Whatever the reason for that (bad zoning? car culture?) I definitely think a gas back-up is a good idea!
your pretty miss ... ( 1 week ago by rtsoccerplayer)
your pretty miss informed.
the tesla roadster gets over 200 miles on a charge and performs better than a corvette.
plus how often do people go on roadtrips? the majority of people don't go on roadtrips. plus, gm already launched an electric car back in the 90's but scrapped it. plus, electric cars actualy existed before gasoline cars. we are going backwards in technology, instead of forwards, we need an electric car. the technology is here, but we're not using it.
Is any one else a ... ( 1 week ago by vdiesel75)
Is any one else a bit pissed that Chevy promoted the upcoming Camaro as the Volt all summer, and now says that the shape has now changed due to wind tunnel tests so now we have this piece of crap Volt?
Hmm... I wasn't ... ( 1 week ago by Zephippz)
Hmm... I wasn't disagreeing about the usefulness of EV mode. But multiple cars aren't possible for many of us, and you need to account for emergencies requiring more range (IE little bobbie is in the hospital.) Gas won't go down to a reasonable level in the near future, as when demand drops, more people will drive on more gasoline.
It will take quite a while to switch to EV hybrid as a start, that is certain. Many will stick with gas, especially if it gets cheaper.
As for you, ... ( 1 week ago by Zephippz)
As for you, soccerplayer. I see virtually zero facts past the second sentence.
As for Tesla, absolutely true. But why? Maybe we have the technology. Why are we not driving Teslas and why are we not using the technology that is here?
The pricetag of the Tesla Roadster says it all.
GM scrapped the EV1 car to protect company secrets utilized in it, as well as it being completely unprofitable to sell at the time. No conspiracy, sorry.
Sorry, but it seems YOU are misinformed.
I thought that ... ( 5 days ago by wjcurrie)
I thought that after you drive 40 miles on electric, the gas powered generator kicks on, recharging the batteries, giving you an additional 360 miles in range.

It doesn't really ... ( 2 days ago by jvmalum)
It doesn't really matter whether we give GM any credit, or talk smack about them. Products sell themselves. If they produce the best product at a competitive price, they will be the winner. They have failed to do that so far in a big way, so its no wonder people have lost confidence in them, But we will let this, their latest venture speak for it self. As for me, I'm not hearing anything to get exited about. Still smells like self interest and corporate greed. NO MORE FORIGN OIL!!!!!

its a good start, but 40 miles? maybe 78% of americans only drive about 40 miles on ONE trip, but they take several trips a day! (To school, after school activities, weekend outings, etc.). The fact that it taks SIX hours is a little too long.

i'd love to buy the volt. but if some other companies are making their own plug-in hybrid i'll buy from them (perhaps toyota) why? coz i remember how General Motors (General Morons for some) crushed 'BRAND NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLES'. if anyone else is interested wats the documentary "WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR?". we had electric cars in our hands and we fought to keep 'em but they chose to crush those eco/wallet friendly cars and came up with HUMMER. . . WAT A WASTE

GM stocks tanked yesterday. Maybe they should push up the release of the Volt to like, today or else they'll be out of business.
The Prius Hybrid ... ( 2 hours ago by emforty2)
The Prius Hybrid has a 12 year proven history already
the Volt Hybrid=0 years and still 2 years away
that will make GM 14 years behind in this arena!
remember GMs first attemp at sub-compact cars the CHEVY CHEVETTE? that was pile of dump
how but GMs first attempt of diesel cars!
the Firsts attempts had not been good according to their history you don't want to gamble your hard earned money on a loser company!
