That makes no sense. Players will play harder in cities they were born? I'm sure a hockey player would much rather play in Montreal than Florida, but that doesn't mean they're gonna try any less harder.
I agree on one point though, hockey should not be places like Atlanta, etc. when there are markets in Canada like Winnipeg that would eat up hockey. Both from a economic and moral standpoint. The Thrashers would generate tons of revenue in Canada as opposed to what they pull in now.

Well, in the 90's when those franchises were shipped out to Colorado and Phoenix, the Canadian dollar was extremely weak and all salaries were (and are) paid in American dollars, so it was extremely difficult to turn a profit. Now the two currencies are much closer in worth, so the economic disadvantage Canadian teams faced is gone. Granted you can't just pick up franchises and move them based on the condition of the economy at any given time but teams would thrive in Winnipeg or Hamilton today

I'd say the Avalanche have done quite well in Colorado while Phoenix might take some time to build a good fanbase (as the Preds and others may also). When you open a business in a new market, you normally project a 5-10 year period before you expect to see it become successful. In hockey, winning makes that happen much faster.

The Avalanche have been successful, but that's not what I'm arguing at all. I'm just saying NHL franchises in Canada are now economically on a level-playing field as their American counterparts, and because of this it pains me to see teams like the Predators and Thrashers floundering in hockey hell when they could be flourishing up north. And teams don't really need time to develop fans if you have a good enough market. Just ask the Wild.

No I mean the Wild, who have yet to not sell out a game in their 7-year history, including the expansion year when they were terrible. And the North Stars only moved because of a scumbag owner who wanted more than Minnesota could give, so he moved to Dallas and sold the team a couple years later. If you think Minnesota has bad hockey fans you have no clue what you're talking about.

As far as why they moved....that's your opinion only.
People around the NHL also want to say that it was because of lack of fan support that the Penguins threatened to move too. Nothing could have been further from the truth, it was all about politicians not keeping their promises, but try telling people that.
