Orange belt is typically the 3rd color rank, after white and yellow. Colors are usually going from lightest to darkest. In old times, it was simply a white belt getting stained and over time getting darker, showing experience. Then a black one was granted to the advanced. So colored ranks are often white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, and brown. Red is usually a master rank, depending on the style.
