I got it off limewire, believe it or not ... theres a few versions floating around that are called "Rising Sun Blues" - I had to do some research to find out exactly who was teh rtist -- i was trying to find the clarence version, not the leadbelly one, but it's where i found it ... i'll post the original song in full sometime today, if you want.

great vid, but just so you know leadbelly's version was actually recorded in 1948. the first known recording is Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster's.

There was another black blues musician that covered it in the 50s....I cant recall his name but who was the originator of this melody was it leadbelly???? also who was the original lyric writer because these lyrics are so DEEP!!!
I still say Animals' version was the most powerful anything after that was just mediocre ....

One of the biggest differences between earlier versions and newer ones, Animals and onward, is that the narrator is a woman in the earlier versions. Hence being led astray and ending up in a whorehouse (House of the Rising Sun)
