yes, if u hold CTRL and left mouse click, you will create a vertex. you have to be in edit mode to do this. Any subsequent CRTL LMB clicks will automatically join the two vertices with an edge

im pretty sure subsurf is adding subpaths (or more squares to the object to make it appear rounder...set smooth seems to bend the subpaths to make it look smoother. Probably while rendering if the subsurf is higher it will produce a bettter model

I'm a seventy year old man who was trained as a illustrator. Recently I got interested in "Blender" and of course went looking for some beginning video tutorials. Well, yours are without a doubt the most user friendly I have found. The humor of us being seperated by well over fifty years hasn't been wasted on myself or my friends. :) Where else but the net? Nice to see the PB Forum. Nice intro to the toolbar 'Set Smooth' and 'Set Solid'. Very smart the way you figured out the Relative offset facilities of Modifiers / Add Modifier / Arrays. Great work. Keep it up :)

or he could turn off some background apps.if he went into task manager and went to processes he should probably know what he can turn off :). He can even buy a Air can (the can that sprays air :P) it can blow all of the dust off the fan if you take the back cover off. That stopped my computer from making a turbo-engine sound.
