I dont particularly like Shioda Aikido though I still thinks its effective. Some of the techniques are a bit reckless for me and I feel the ukes attack is a little too enthusiastic.

How many people in the real world in a fight just hold their hand out and walk forward like these students do?
For anyone impressed with this demonstration, I suggest you watch the demonstration without looking at the Master and focus on the Students.
Look at the bald white student at 0:43 just raise his and give that half ass slow tomahawk swipe.
Does anyone attack like that on the street?
The Students are not even attacking, they are just hold their hand out while running forward.

I disagree that the demonstration is a joke. And I also think that comparing demonstration Aikido to real street fighting is like trying to compare apples with pears. Aikido requires the attacker to attack 100% without holding back so that Nage can show how the technique works. Of course a trained fighter wont attack like that but your average joe probably would. I do agree however that the womens weapons are very poor but then much of what you see on youtube is in terms of Aikido and weapons.

Saito Sensei's Aikido is way more effortless than this and I know that his weapon techniques would also crush this noob since he wouldve been the best in the world while he was alive. i watched your recommendation. saito sensei's aikido is impressive, but you are comparing two different styles. and making an assumption by saying one is crap while his is the best. way more effortless is a misnomer. aikikai looks more fluid than yoshinkan because shioda sensei studied under o-sensei during his hard years. seems they both studied at the same time (shioda and saito).but took different things things from it. i would never disparage another styles top sensei the way you have

Im not gunna argue with you in terms of how you feel I disrespected your style or this 8th Dan. Like I said before, Ive seen way better Aikido. To me its a fact, to you its an attack on your pride. We are now on two different levels, end of story.

@ddsoco attacking someone 100% is a great training technique, although remember that usually attacks would come at you right hand, left hand, right sweep kick etc so just because they are attacking at a reckless speed, its only a single attack. Also remember if you have any Aikido experience at all, its harder to do techniques on somebody who is stationary, or who reacts to your movements, so even though these guys should be congratulated for 100% attacks, its still very unrealistic, Retard.

I've just been having a conversation with some other guy regarding Shioda's style. This is what I have surmised for myself.
"Aikido without direct linear movements and attacking ones centre is Aikido without a backbone. You cant have circular Aikido if at first you dont take ones centre so in a sense Shioda should be a great inspiration to those styles that appear far too soft in my opinion. I tend to think he had a lot of experience in aiki-ken...

it's not me you're disrespecting. i could care less about some know-it-all on the internet. but what you see as way better aikido, many (including myself)see as touchy - feely aikido. i am not going to get in an argument over which style is better, but at least have the respect to not talk crap about a man who has given his life to the style he trains in. more importantly, if you ever have the opportunity to see or take uke for him, you will then have a much less ignorant view.
