ah, c'mon, you're not serious... what exactly is happening here is that they are all DAMN convincing and this is, for me, exactly the right fire for music. not all music has to be related to dancing, although i could move pretty well on this. and, btw there are ethnic regions that find 'odd' meters very natural and comfortable. brad has a lot of non-jazz related influences.
the only reason you ... ( 9 months ago by rBennich)
the only reason you don't like this is because you have heard 4/4 grooves your whole life. if you had listned to 7/4 your whole life you wouldn't like a 4/4 song. it's all about understanding of music. brad mehldau is probably the greatest pianist in our time, at least right up with jarrett.

i almost agree, bennich, but be careful: jarret is in a different dimension of any pianist past, present, and future

altough, i think brad is a better improvisor, and has more intressting ideas than jarrett.
what i love the most about brad, is his amazing timing.

my friend, i see you are a connosieur, so i highly recommend you to get deeply into the solo piano concerts fo el Maestro, and i don't mean Koln concert, but things like Vienna, or Bremen-Lausanne...Timing? Jarret was on earth when time was invented, bro, the same as Bach! Brad, as Hancock, and so many others, are terrific, outstanding, genial musicians...Keith is in dimension we are unable to understand

This is wonderful... great dynamics, relaxing, and a great arangement... i woudn't say this is boring at all

classical trained nazi. go listen to metallica and radio head. slop? try harmonic genious up there with coltrne... also im quite sure brad is way my comfortable in 7/4 than you will ever be, and music is not just to mak people stand and be noisy. Hell, almost all great music is rejected at first, I bet you don't like jaco, you ignorant piss.

I do like Jaco. I like Brad Mehldau, too. I've heard him a number of times. But a player can be great yet still not transcend the medium. That's what's happening here.
But neither Jaco or BM is Coltrane. Never forget that.
And to even mention pop music hacks like metallica and radiohead is out of bounds here. If we're talking sausage, then bring up the sausage makers.
Are you into music or hero worshipping, make up your mind.

I've heard odd meters since I was a teenager. Just because something is different doesn't make it better.
Listen to Trane with Elvin, or Mingus, or Miles. The overall structure will be 4/4, but everyone will be in a different place. *Simultaenous* different meters, instead of everybody slaving away keeping the same 7 together. Those grooves burn much hotter.
Since Herbie is ... ( 8 months ago by HoratioParker)
Since Herbie is still around, the mantle can't be passed to either Jarrett or Mehldau. Even so, I prefer Mulgrew Miller or Kevin Hays to BM. But that's not to say that BM's not a great player, he is.

i have listened deeply in to jarrett's work, and i love it. but it's all a matter of taste. i think brad is more intreresting.

Ok I love Brad, ... ( 8 months ago by AnnexNuts)
Ok I love Brad, think he is a groundbreaking pianist, but to say he is 'way ahead' of Herbie Hanock is simply ridiculous. Herbie's experience and persistence through 3 decades dwarfs Mehldau's breakthrough up-and-coming contributions to music. Period. That was a very hasty comment Bennich.

ok. sorry. i know herbie has done more for the music developement, but then again, brad is way more specific in his playing. especially his timing.

all of them contributed to music, but you simply can't compare mulgrew with mehldau, with herbie, etc.

brad mehldau is brad mehldau. and herbie hancock is herbie hancock. they both have their own voice, and they're both fucking awesome. we're listening to brad mehldau (the trio) now. listen to it in the now. you people seem to forgetting something important.. why you like music.

Music is not sport. There is not votes 2:1 or 1:1 ... All stuff is good, difference is musical taste...

It´s quite good the wave of energy that grows through the tune. Mehldau's sense of space and silence help the band to communicate and really create something together

This is from House on Hill actually. The tune is the title track, House on Hill.
