someone help! Too many choices! I'm upgrading from a compact cam, but Im looking for somethign that will last me for quite few years without having to upgrade yet again. So entry level maybe higher but definitely not pro, cant afford :D. Can anyone make a recommendation? Would this cam, or Canon Xti, Nikon D80, Sony A100 be a good choice? or are there other cams I should take a look at?

Hi GOOOFYproductions, we feel your pain! There's loads of new DSLRs, and the ones you mention are all really good. We've done a video comparing the Canon, Nikon and Sony which you might find useful, and if you want a detailed comparison of each model, pop over to our CameraLabs website.
I'd also recommend popping into a store and trying them in person, because one will feel much better to you than the others - and that's normally the best one to get!

Hello theroden! I'm glad you like the videos! Have you seen our 10 Megapixel group test video? That might help you decide about the Sony Alpha. All the models you mention are good, although the E500 is the oldest. I would advise picking them up in a shop and going for the one which looks and feels best in your hand. All will take great photos, so the feel is normally the deciding factor. You might also find the detailed reviews at our Cameralabs website useful.
Good luck! Gordon

Hi Gordon,
Great video. Seriously, it was a lot of help, espically with the limited reviews on the internet.
Quick question though if you wouldn't mind. What's the viewfinder like compared to the e-500? The e-500's got a lot of complaints for being too small so I'm slightly worried about this.
Thanks.

Hi MonkeyHugger, I'm glad the video was useful!
I didn't have the E-500 alongside the E-400 when I reviewed it, so it's hard to say whether one had a better viewfinder than the other. But from my recollection they were similar, and both appear a little smaller than the best DSLRs. This is one of the downsides of Four Thirds bodies so far, but you'll have to look through one yourself to decide if it's an issue. Many people wouldn't notice.

I'm delighted with my E400 and I'm glad I chose it over Canikon ...
It's a more honest camera than canikons approach to noise reduction and the colours are natural.
Thanks Olympus for this innovative product.

Great review! This really helped me get a better insight into my options, although I think I'll go for the E-410. I'm an aspiring photographer who knows NOTHING but this brand of SLR cameras seem to be simple and easy to use. Thanks again for the review!

I got one of these around october time last year and it was my first dslr and is an absolutely brilliant camera to use, my friend has a canon eos 350d which at the time was in a higher price bracket, and my little e-400 holds its own easily against the canon equivelent. I've owned cameras by almost all the manufacturers, but these days I tend to use the camera which I'm testing at the moment to maximise my time with it...

It is smaller than most DSLRs, but only you can decide if that's an issue for you personally.
