This is almost definitely not staged. It is not the most difficult climb (a lot of flaking and good holds on the rock, some one mentioned 5.7), and Dan probably did the climb numerous times with a rope. What makes it incredible is the fact that he is free climbing and the speed which he does it. He was known for free-climbing, in fact he died rock climbing...

OMFG that's adrenaline pure only seeing this shit. If he had made only one failure he would be a dead man. He died by a high jump cause the rope tears at a knot in 1998.

Can anyone explain why it seems spliced? Several times during the footage, it looks like he comes very close to a camera above him, but the longer shots don't appear to have anyone else on the cliff.
(This is NOT an "I don't believe he could climb it so fast" post. I know he was damn good, but it seems like he got the time in one go, then ascended again with a bunch of other cameras around.) Any non-guess answers welcome, thanks.

There are cameras set up in a few spots on the climb. But it is a 400 foot cliff so its hard to get the video of the whole climb so some stuff is spliced to fill the void. It amazes me that so many people focus on this video alone DanO has done much harder things. Plus he's been dead for about a decade.
