Original footage ... thanks to the efforts of the whole community *) it was finally possible to "decipher" what Einstein is saying:
"Now I will add a few words unprepared. [laughter] A country becomes really a soul only in consciously serving the intellectual life, and in the case of our Jewish people it was really this endeavour, which conserved the Jewish people as a whole. We would not be in existence today, as a community of people, without this continued, or discontinued ... ehh ... activity into learning and in thought and in literature."
The occasion of this speech is still unknown, though.

One of my favourite books is "Science a History" by John Gribbin.
I'd recommend it to everyone, it's a lot of fun, and very well written.

He "chose" to go to America to escape the Nazis who surely would have killed him.
To live in America you need to be an American citizen.
He also recommended that if the Nazis invented an Atomic Bomb, before the Americans or English did, he had no doubt they would use it.
Imagine Hitler with as many Nuclear bombs as he wanted?
The amount of radiation would probably be enough to knack the whole food chain alone.

You think that the germans could create the bomb without einstein? haha thats hilarious Who do you think came up with the theory of relativity and the formula energy = mass x the speed of light squared which led to the atomic bomb? This was done well before einstein went to the united states.

Although the equation was a big help, it was not necessary for the creation of the atomic bomb. The Germans were trying to split atoms before Einstein invented the equation. They just didn't know what it would do, if they succeeded they would have gotten the picture real fast.

Einstein was the greatest plagiarist of the 20th century. He was in fact mathematically INCOMPETENT. For example, he never derived the field equations of general relativity. They were first derived by the German mathematician David Hilbert -Einstein merely stole them and then claimed priority for the work. Special Relativity? He didn't add a single original idea to the theory- it had all been done by others (eg Poincare) before him.
It's time to shatter the obnoxious MYTH of Saint Einstein.

Anyone who thinks Einstein was a genius is either: hoodwinked, bigoted or a plain idiot. However I cannot wholly blame Plain Joe for having misconceptions of the man - after all, how is he supposed to know of the way Einstein ripped off other people's ideas and claimed them to be his own when his coterie of sycophantic lobbyists (both academic and non-academic)have cleverly raised him to the status of deity?
Luckily there are now incontrovertible proofs showing the man WAS a con. And how.

Thank you for posting this video! But I don't believe Einstein is saying "this continued, or discontinued"; he is saying "this continued, uh, this continued". "This" sounds like "dis" because of his accent. Your interpretation does not make as much sense. Why would "activity into learning . . ." be "discontinued"? It's a stretch of the imagination to say this is sensical. Also, why would someone simultaneously describe a noun with two words that mean the opposite? He wasn't being ironical.
