They recorded the song, and then they filmed the video. It's all silent. I thought it'd be quite obvious they didn't record it at the same time as they sung it?

I like the Monkees better than the Beatles. The Beatles just got more weird religious/druggie stuff as time progressed.
I liked the Monkees ... ( 3 days ago by CJurasin)
I liked the Monkees too, but we have to remember the Beatles wrote their own songs while the Monkees were a "staged band" and at first most of them couldn't even play the instruments they were carrying, let alone write any music!! They were "put together" in order to make money.

All musicians are put together to make money. There's nothing honest about the music industry. I know the Monkees were basically actors who learned to play, but as time went on, they got better. With the Beatles, time made them creepier and freakier. Didn't Lennon compare his band to Jesus at some point? I'd rather hang with the fun guys!
No I disagree.... ... ( 3 days ago by CJurasin)
No I disagree....real musicians join THEMSELVES together to form a band for the love (and fun) of making music and THEN to make money. The Monkees actually "auditioned" with managers to get INTO the band, managers who were interested in making money OFF the band. The Beatles did their own thing, wrote almost ALL their own music, and THEN made money. The Beatles were hoping to become big in Liverpool and then MAYBE getting big in London (according to Paul's interview here on You Tube).

Bands who write their own songs often become strange, because they have to experience strange things to give them ideas. They're still worth listening to. Play Abbey Road, the Beatles last true album, and tell me that it's "strange" and not worth hearing.

regardless of the choices and lives of the beatles, their music is good. just because some people may say that they were freaky or whatever, that shouldn't reflect on the musical outcome. they were a great band.
Interesting points ... ( 2 days ago by captcrouton)
Interesting points of view. I suppose (regarding the Beatles) the continued desire to become bigger and the emptiness when that didn't satisfy, probably led to their drugs and whack out eastern/self worship stuff.
And I'm not saying the Monkees were free from that. I don't care that much to do the research. Just that there's a joy and a "I don't take myself too seriously" aspect to what I know of their music that the Beatles lost. And so I'd just rather eat from that restaurant.

no, the desire to become big didn't start the drugs in my point of view. they were a lot like the monkees at the beginning. the fact that such huge, crazy worldwide fame had been set upon them, in my opinion, was what started all the drugs. none of us were one of the beatles, so we wouldn't know. (unless tehre is beatle reading this, then plz message me and we can email or u can drop by or something! lolz)

Mickey Dolenz reminds me of Kevin McDonald from "Kids In the Hall".
