This is the last track from Quincy Jones' The Dude released in 1980. It is a hot sexy track written by Rod Temperton and sung by Patti Austin. Patti does leads and backgrounds (no one else). The producers knew you get a purer sound if you have one voice on a track and I totally agree.
I've been listening to Patti Austin's voice for thirty years on many albums and songs and when someone else is singing background on her songs I can tell something is "off" or different. While they may be excellent vocalists the blend isn't there (like good coffee).
Patti, here's to you. Someone suggested that it didn't matter if Michael Jackson got the credit for the background vocals and I say to a person who believes that does not matter: how would you like to dedicate your life to something only to have the credit go to someone else? Patti Austin doesn't get nearly the recognition she deserves for her talent and you're feeding the same demons that have killed her career from soaring. Why post it to have it be wrong? Her fans should speak up for her. She doesn't deserve to be treated unfairly like any other human being.
Patti's fans will always have her back. Don't post Patti's music then say it's Michael Jackson. While they did perform together many times, most notably on "It's The Falling In Love" from Micheal's "Off The Wall" album, they've done the Budweiser Superfest tour together in 1982.
Their voices are similar, yes but any seasoned ear knows the difference. This is my middle finger to those who disrespect my girl Patti.
