True, but it ... ( 5 months ago by Roxas42)
True, but it doesn't really matter what the wage level is, if you work for a living. If you work, you'll bank the savings either as lower prices or higher wages- probably split about evenly between the two.

Sweeden has a 22% VAT, and an income tax. You're just wrong.

I assume you support the Fair Tax then- no more EITC handouts, no more tax preferences, no more disincentives to work or to save.
That's an idiotic ... ( 5 months ago by Roxas42)
That's an idiotic statement. The whole point of the Fair Tax is not to pick winners and losers. All of those other taxes choose winners and losers. Besides that, luxury taxes destroy middle class jobs. An overhall of the American tax code would create jobs, increase wages, and get the government out of our way.
That's about half ... ( 5 months ago by Roxas42)
That's about half of the embedded taxes, and if you work, you get that money back anyway. Actually, that would be the better scenario, because it will transfer burdens from law abiding citizens to criminals and tax cheats.

Disk -- exactly.
Just like they say corporations don't pay taxes -- only people do. Then they say the federal government will become a MAJOR taxpayer -- 800 billion worth.
A sane overhall ... ( 5 months ago by MarkDouglasC)
A sane overhall would be fine -- Fairtax is utter nonsense. Its a farce. Its bullshit. It would be the highest fucking sales tax on EARTH -- and it would be on people's rent.
Which country even HAS a sales tax on rent?
Which country even HAS a sales tax on chemotherapy?
This idiot FT would have the worlds HIGHEST sales tax on rent - medical cost, gasoline, utlity bill, even car insurance.
You would bitch like a stuck pig if it passed
It is absolutely ... ( 4 months ago by ourearthhome)
It is absolutely necessary to remove all taxes from labor and capital. But sales taxes are the instruments of tyranny and the truth is that they finally have to be paid out of the earnings of labor and capital. The people getting the free ride are landowners whose land values are created, maintained and increased by all services provided by govts. A stiff land tax while eliminating taxes on labor/capital is better economics and more just since not everyone owns land. Big land loves the Fair Tax.

Some of these people who preach against the Fair Tax are getting more crackpot by the day. Another one for my collection.

i'm just sick of half my paycheck going to free loaders and to the government to just waste with their "pork barrel spending"! I want the money that i worked hard for and i don't want the govt reaching in and taking what is mine!

Let's take a 23% tax on revenue (or value added) minus what is spent in payroll.
A teenage household baby sitter would have revenue=payroll, so 23%(revenue-payroll): no tax.
Any money that does not go to your payroll goes to somewhere else. We could call this plan a 23% outsourcing tax or a 23% income tax credit.
As an American I ... ( 4 months ago by kmarinas86)
As an American I understand that our payroll represents our blood, sweat, and tears. If our income was deductible from the sales tax base, a 180 degree change would result. No longer would our domestic incomes be stifled, but rather, they would be encouraged.

Unfortunately the ... ( 3 months ago by ourearthhome)
Unfortunately the Fair Tax does not eliminate the far greater threat to the safety of this country inherent in the collection of unearned incomes which by their nature are paid from the earned incomes of productive labor and capital and which existed long before taxes on labor and capital made things worse. A real solution will be to eliminate all taxes on labor and capital and only tax values and incomes unearned in the hands of their owners. The tax on land values is such a tax.

Our -- very interesting!! I basically agree, but you would have to explain it better.
You have described what I call "skimming" -- skimming the wealth and value that comes from work of others. Hard to define, tho. Cap gains & dividends could be called skimming for example.
But we NEED skimming, we NEED greed, as a motivation. God bless skimming - if its taxed as much as labor.
Right now the tax code screws work by taxing it 300% higher than skimming. Much of skimming pays no taxes.
kmarina -- not sure ... ( 3 months ago by MarkDouglasC)
kmarina -- not sure what you mean, but I agree a babysitter or other very low wage person should have no tax. Fairtax clobbers those folks -- especially if they get sick or use their savings to buy a new house or car. The low wage person under fairtax could have 100,000 - even 200,000 in sales tax on medical or new home or whatever.
Not sure the details of your plan, thou. Please email me to explain.

Bruce -- Fairtax now admits -- Boortz admits -- that you WONT keep that money you used to pay in taxes -- you WONT get that money on your paycheck underfairtax.
They have "clarified" that "misimpression". your employer can keep the money you used to pay in taxes that was deducted from your check. Your employer decides -- not you. Fairtax now says you take home the same as before -- no more, under Fairtax.
Surprised? So was I. Want the link to Boortz "clarifying it?" Email me.

MarkDouglasC (the child molester) is not telling the truth on this one. Anyone who reads his comments knows how he tends to twist things and stretch the truth. I read the article that Mark is referring to. Boortz didn't "admit" anything. Please take Mark up on his offer for the link to the article and see for yourself. The FairTax has Mark just a little worried. The more he rants, the more worried he is. Best to just ignore him.

Earn $10k - $150k a year? Want to pay more taxes and have less leisure time on average? Then the FT/NST is the wacko tax for you!
"In the aggregate, some households* would not be as well off for the first couple of years**. However, a stronger incentive to invest and save would cut into consumption, and the greater incentive to work would cut into leisure."

Fair tax is the way ... ( 3 months ago by averion5496)
Fair tax is the way. Imangine getting a salary of $52,000 a year. You get $1000 a week. Current tax, you get $666. Fair tax you get $1000 per week. Tax is generated when you spend money. Say you spend $20,000, you are taxed $20,000 x 23% = $4,600. With current tax system, you pay 33% x 52,000 = $17,160. Fair Tax gives more money in hard working Americans. It attracts companies here to the US because no corporate tax. Means more high paying jobs. America can now take on China.
"Current tax, you ... ( 3 months ago by Diskwin)
"Current tax, you get $666" ...
Incorrect. No quintile pays 33% in effective federal taxes. THe top 1% only pay about 31%*.
The middle classes pay 8-18%*. Under an FT, fairtaxorg/BHI's own numbers show the average effective rate of the middle classes and upper classes as around 19%.
So the top 1% receive a huge tax cut and the middle classes get a huge tax raise to make up the difference (revenue neutral, remember).
