How about Kevin McHale with his Dick "Night Train" Lane impression on Kurt Rambis at 4:14? Little did McHale know that he would spend the entire 1985 Finals paying for his takedown.

they could have called a flagrant one on Larry Bird for nudging Michael Cooper on the baseline. that's a big non call there.

if the current rules were applied here, penalties would have been harsh. McHale could have been suspended the following game for the flagrant two. Larry Bird a flagrant one for shoving Cooper. and Bird and Kareem double technicals for thrash talking. the players who left the bench should be fined here as well.

You're exactly right on all counts. In fact, if the current rules were applied here, the Lakers would have won in 6. The Celtics won because they physically challenged the Lakers and threw them off their game. That couldn't happen today.

If the 84 series were played today... 1) Bird would NEVER have called his teammates "sissies" after Game 3. 2) Bird & McHale would have been tossed from this game (Bird for 2 Ts, the Cooper shove and the Kareem elbow) 3) Maxwell would have been fined $10G for the choke sign on Worthy at the end of OT. 4) Worthy would have been tossed from Game 6 and suspended for Game 7 for shoving Maxwell directly from behind. And today's NBA is better!?!?! Thanks for posting these classics!

Heinson - "That's the way the game is played". He'd be furious if the Lakers pulled that (and he's even worse now). teemacdaddy, if the current rules were applied to this game, every guy to come off the bench would be suspended. Seriously though, why would Bird pick a fight with Kareem??? Bird was a great player and is a good guy, but anyone other than Bruce Lee who challenges Kareem is an idiot.

This was the REAL NBA when fauls were actually fauls, no hand checking rules, no zone defense, no pussy calls and when players actually moved the ball well and passed with intelligence! Glorious 1980s!
