The whole point of TASes is to show what tricks would be possible if there were no human or real-world limitations. Therefore anything (e.g. savestates, RAM viewers, disassembling the game code etc.) can be used as long as the result is just a sequence of keypresses.

Post this in your comment or page if you've played at least 1 zelda game and thought it was awesome!
TAS doesn't bother except in cases where they aren't labeled as such, where people are trying to pass them off as real-time playing. That's just dishonest, but unfortunately all too common.
i was speaking in general when i said i don't like TAS because, as you said, it shows unrealistic versions of how the game is played, or meant to be played.
maybe i like viewing how someone plays the game within their own limitations.
so thank you for that.
Would you go to a HP fan's website (say, tinyurl[dot]com/4dva5q) and tell them that it's not real literature? Go to a chick flick and say that there's nothing happening at all? "this uses save states?! even worse" I'd compare with going to a Matrix movie and complaining that the movements are unrealistic...
i can see that we are both strict on our points. So let this convo be done.
